Firewood Questions: Cords, Seasoning and Delivery
Answers for firewood buyers in Havelock, New Bern, Morehead City and the rest of our delivery area.
What firewood does Irish Greens Firewood sell?
We sell oak, hickory and mixed hardwood, seasoned 6 to 12 months. You can buy a full cord, a half cord, a pallet tote or a larger order.
How much firewood is a cord?
A full cord is 128 cubic feet of wood, stacked tight: for example a pile 4 feet high, 4 feet deep and 8 feet long. That is the measure NIST, the federal weights and measures agency, uses for firewood sales.
What is the difference between a cord and a half cord?
A half cord is half the volume of a full cord: 64 cubic feet, such as a stack 4 feet high, 2 feet deep and 8 feet long. NIST notes that terms like "face cord", "rack" or "truckload" have no set size, so ask any seller for the amount in cords.
What does seasoned firewood mean?
Seasoned firewood has been split and left to dry until it burns cleanly. The EPA's Burn Wise program says wood burns best below 20 percent moisture. Our wood is seasoned 6 to 12 months before it is sold.

Do you deliver to businesses and rentals?
Yes. Businesses such as restaurants and vacation rentals can set up recurring firewood deliveries.
How should I store firewood after delivery?
The EPA's Burn Wise program advises stacking firewood outdoors, off the ground, with the top covered and the sides open so air can keep drying it.
